Before You Get Started...
Getting Started
1. Dry-fit your rear bumper overlays by following the instructions below without removing the backing to the 3M double-sided tape. Ensure the part is centered and make note of its positioning for reference later. This will give you the opportunity to practice the installation without permanently installing the overlay on the truck.
2. Detach the lower clips from the rear bumpers.
3.) Ensure the bumper is clean and free of debris. Use Isopropyl rubbing alcohol to free the bumper surface of any chemicals or soap residue that may limit the effectiveness of the 3M tape.
4.) Apply the adhesion promoter to the areas of the tailgate where the 3M tape will be touching down. (Read the instructions on the adhesion promoter tube to learn how to begin the flow of adhesion promoter.)
4.) Apply the adhesion promoter to the areas of the tailgate where the 3M tape will be touching down. (Read the instructions on the adhesion promoter tube to learn how to begin the flow of adhesion promoter.)
5.) Take your blackout tape and run it along the inner perimeter of your passenger and drivers side bumper. This will ensure that the OEM bumper will not show when the bumper overlays are fully installed.
6.) Before it is time to install the overlay, we must remove the red backing tape completely from either the passenger or drivers' side BumperShellz (it does not matter which side you start with).
7.) Wrap the front side cover around to the corner of the bumper. *If you have them, be sure that the overlay sensor hole cutouts align with your truck sensors before applying pressure. Be careful not to let the tape touch down until the overlay is centered, and you are happy with its position. Once you double-check this, apply firm pressure to the part as you move along. Be sure to apply direct pressure around the senor hole as well.
8.) Once one side is installed, repeat steps 6-7 on the other overlay.
The Finale
9. Put firm pressure on the taped areas of the BumperShellz, and remove any protective film.
10,) Re-install the lower clips of your rear bumpers that you detached in Step 2.
11.) Wait 48 hours before taking your vehicle through automated car washes or driving on the highway. Reapply pressure to all taped areas 24 hours after the initial installation.
Care for your BumperShellz™
Most BumperShellz colors will function much like paint. They can be buffed, polished, taken through automated car washes, and whatever else you would normally do. Some ABS colors can be sanded down and re-painted if ever you decide you want to change colors. The only color that cannot be polished, and re-painted is the Textured Black TPO.
