Before You Get Started...
Getting Started
1. Dry-fit your tailgate spoiler applique by following the instructions below without removing the backing to the 3M double-sided tape. Ensure the part is centered, and make note of its positioning for reference later.
2. Reference the instructions below to help guide you on a tape removal process that will ensure the easiest possible installation and minimization of errors.
2.a. The image below will show what is meant by the instructions to "peel & tape."
2.b. The image below indicates where to "peel & tape," and where to fully remove the backing to the 3M tape.
3. Thoroughly clean upper tailgate surface thoroughly with rubbing alcohol.
4. Apply the adhesion promoter to the areas of the tailgate where the 3M tape will be touching down. (Read the instructions on the adhesion promoter tube to learn how to begin the flow of adhesion promoter.)
5. Begin on one side of the tailgate and carefully tuck the top edge of the spoiler applique under the tailgate cap. Be careful not to let the tape touch down until the applique is centered, and you are happy with its position. (If your model has a protective film on the surface, peel back the area that will be tucked under the tailgate cap.)
6. Continue down the tailgate, tucking the upper edge of the applique as you move.
7. When satisfied Cover is properly positioned, press taped areas against the tailgate, to hold the applique in place while you remove the backing to the rest of the tape.
8. Move to the tape tabs you adhered to the front surface in step 2.b. Begin peeling the tape backing, applying pressure to the areas where the tape is exposed.
The Finale
9. Put firm pressure on the taped areas of the BumperShellz, and remove any protective film.
Care for your BumperShellz™
Most BumperShellz colors will function much like paint. They can be buffed, polished, taken through automated car washes, and whatever else you would normally do. Some ABS colors can be sanded down and re-painted if ever you decide you want to change colors. The only color that cannot be polished, and re-painted is the Textured Black TPO.
