Before You Get Started...
Getting Started
1. Begin with the two front fenders. Remove the three bolts from the bottom edge of the flare next to the front tire with a 10mm ratcheting wrench.
2. Dry fit your fender overlays by following the instructions below without removing the backing to the 3M double-sided tape. Press down firmly on all sections of the overlay to ensure those bottom edges tuck in on the left and right sides of the fenders.
3. After you have the fender overlay positioned correctly, apply a piece of masking tape across the top-middle portion of the overlay and onto the truck itself (as referenced in the picture below). Draw a straight line traveling down the tape and carefully slice it cut it in half. This will help you align the overlay it it's correct position when you are doing your final install.
4. Reference the instructions below to help guide you on a tape removal process that will ensure the easiest possible installation and minimization of errors.
|
Remove red backing completely from the inner section of the overlay.
|
Cut a straight line down through the center of the outer section of tape. Pull back about a quarter inch from both sides.
|
Take the ends of that upper tape and wrap them around to the front of the overlay, securing it in place with masking tape.
|
5. Thoroughly clean the fender surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol.
6. Apply the adhesion promoter to the areas of the fender where the 3M tape will be touching down. (Read the instructions on the adhesion promoter tube to learn how to begin the flow of adhesion promoter.)
7. Now it's time to install. Match the center of the tape you marked on your overlay with the marked tape on the truck. (Reference photo below).
8. Take off the masking tape and peel the exposed red backing tape, applying pressure as you go. Ensure you put pressure along the edges and center of the overlay so that the tape sticks to the truck.
9. *If you have it* Remove the protective film from your overlay.
10. Don't forget to re-install the bolts on the front edge of your overlay.
11. For the rears, follow all the same steps as the front overlays. The only difference will be that you won't have to remove or re-install the bolts like we did on the fronts.
Care for your BumperShellz™
Most BumperShellz colors will function much like paint. They can be buffed, polished, taken through automated car washes, and whatever else you would normally do. Some ABS colors can be sanded down and re-painted if ever you decide you want to change colors. The only color that cannot be polished, and re-painted is the Textured Black TPO.
