Installation Video Demonstration (with transcript)
Transcript of this video:
Hi, my name is Darren Evans from Ecoological Today, I'm going to demonstrate just how easy it is to install bumper shelves truck bumper covers on a 2009 to 2016 ram truck. We're going to convert this chrome bumper to a gloss white look I'd say in about ten minutes, so
Let's get started and see how easy it is first thing that you need to make sure that you do is remove any debris that might be a stuck underneath your step pads. Sometimes, little rocks and whatever can get under there then make sure that your bumper is nice and clean and dry so that there's a nice surface for the acrylic foam tape to adhere to. So I'm going to demonstrate it on the left side here
I'm going to dry fit It first just so you can see how easy it goes on and then I'll remove the backing from the foam tape. So in order to install bumper shell you just basically need to gently lift the step pad away from the bumper just fractionally so that you can slide the flange underneath. Once you get it started it almost kind of slides on on its own you may need your trim tool At certain locations just to lift it slightly again and then tuck it underneath, so you can see how easy that is now. I'm going to do it with the foam tape. So you can see the whole process.
Bumper shells are made out of a very durable high impact abs plastic They're secured to your truck very easily and very secure in two ways first. There's a upper flange that tucks right underneath your existing step pad trim and then secondly there are strips of adhesive foam tape that secure that bumper shell very nicely to your truck bumper in order to adhere well two things [are] important one. You need to make sure that your bumper is clean you know from dirt grime and dry and then the foam tape supplier recommends that you don't install that tape if it's below sixty degrees Fahrenheit. If it is cooler than that you might bring your truck into the garage or maybe heat up the area a little bit with a blow dryer, and you've got just just just a little bit so that you get a nice wet outs of the adhesive foam tape
Okay, so let's get started once the bumper is clean just peel off the backing then on the ram. I generally get started right over here at the outward end of the step pad and what I want to do is just gently lift . That is fairly like a shoe horn. Slide the bumper Shelves underneath and right now. You're trying to keep the foam tape from contacting with much pressure until you get it into position so every once in a while
You might need just a little bit of help from your your trim tool. Really anything will work that you can get under the edge there
but you want to make sure that it's not something that will scratch either your bumper step trim or your bumper shells. So okay, just lift that little bit slid right in next thing you want to do before you put much pressure on the tape just make sure that the reverse sensors are centered well in the holes of the bumper shell so you can see here I'm off just by a couple of millimeters, so I wanna just try to maneuver that a little bit until I get it nice and centered. Once those are centered you can press firmly on all of your taped areas make sure that you get good contact between the tape and the bumper and that you've got good pressure on it. It is pressure sensitive tape so that pressure really makes difference in terms of how well it will adhere. There, so our left side is on.
I'm going to go ahead and repeat that on the right side, and then I'll show you how to install the center so our remaining part is the center. The center is very easy to put on and just remove the backing get it kind of centered you can tell if it's centered by the amount of overlap see by this notch on this notch those notches will be your stopping point. As far as how far this pushes in underneath the step head trim so get it. Just kind of centered again. You might need your trim tool just to lift it up a little bit. Get that come in there, and then it should just kind of progressively seat itself across. And I'm looking at this gap here. Make sure that's relatively even it doesn't have to be perfect, but in order to have it be some concentric. Make sure that that gaps pretty close. Once it is then you can finish sliding it in so you close up that gap completely. And then you can put pressure where you have the tape. There you go. That's how quickly you can install bumper shells on a 2009 to 2016 Ram basically the same process whether you have the dual exhaust with the cutouts or the single exhaust.
Thank you very much.
